A recognized authority in world ophthalmology, Prof. Robert Rejdak – president of the Association of Ophthalmic Surgeons of Poland and head of the Department of General and Pediatric Ophthalmology at the Medical University of Lublin – once again confirmed his position on the international stage. This time, as an invited expert and panelist, he took part in the XXVI National Congress of AICCER, the prestigious Italian Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery, held March 27-29 in Trieste.
The congress, which gathers leading eye surgeons from across Europe, featured a high-level scientific session titled „Traumatic Cataract: Management, Risks, Complications and Treatment Strategies”, focused on one of the most complex and demanding challenges in ophthalmic surgery. Professor Rejdak presented a case study involving an intraocular foreign body – a scenario that requires both surgical precision and extensive clinical expertise.
His contribution sparked considerable interest among attendees and reflected the high regard in which he is held internationally. Joining him in the session was Dr. Olga Denysiuk, PhD – a close collaborator and former student of Professor Rejdak – whose participation symbolized the dynamic and fruitful academic and clinical partnership between Lublin and Kyiv.
This collaboration, as emphasized by Professor Rejdak, is not only scientific but also strategic. Current joint initiatives include plans to establish a training center in Kyiv, modeled after the Lublin-based ESASO educational hub, as well as support for the development of corneal transplant programs in Ukraine.
The session, held on March 27, was part of a carefully curated program that brought together some of Europe’s most renowned surgeons, including Professor Ahmed Assaf, Vladimir Pfeifer, Michele Marullo, and others. The scientific chair of the congress was Professor Daniele Tognetto – a highly esteemed Italian surgeon and a key figure in refractive cataract surgery.
Professor Rejdak’s participation in such an elite scientific forum further underscores the impact of Polish ophthalmology on the international stage. Thanks to his vision, dedication, and leadership, Poland continues to shape global trends in eye surgery, innovation, and education.
